Sustainable Health Initiatives for All (SHIFA) is building healthier and more resilient communities in Ethiopia’s Somali Region by combining community-based healthcare, disaster resilience, and digital health innovation. In a region where millions face limited access to healthcare, climate-related disasters, and high maternal and child mortality, SHIFA works to develop locally driven, scalable solutions that strengthen health systems and empower communities.

Through integrated health campaigns, public health education, and innovative technology platforms, SHIFA supports frontline health workers, improves access to essential services, and helps communities better prepare for health emergencies and climate-related risks. By connecting public health, technology, and community engagement, SHIFA is pioneering a new model of locally led health innovation designed to transform healthcare delivery in underserved regions.

Innovation/Technology

The SHIFA Clinical Intelligence Platform (SCIP) is an AI-powered clinical decision-support tool designed to help frontline health workers access guideline-based medical knowledge in real time.

In recognition of this innovation, SHIFA was selected for the Health Entrepreneurship Stream (Builder Track) of the African Impact Challenge 2026 Bootcamp, where the platform is being further developed and prepared for scaling across health systems.
